Soweto reels after rising tensions between taxis, e-hailing drivers – SABC News

There is a strong police presence at Maponya Mall, where one person was killed and two others were injured in what is believed to be a taxi violence incident that occurred last night.
Two e-hailing vehicles were attacked by unknown suspects at the mall.
Several Johannesburg Metro Police vehicles are stationed inside the mall premises, while a Group of SAPS members and National Traffic Police members are stationed outside.
Preliminary reports suggest that the incident is allegedly linked to tensions between taxi operators and e-hailing drivers.
This Soweto resident says the government should put a stop to the violence. “How long are we going to keep quiet when a situation like this continues. This is not the first time. Last time they attacked a gentleman who had come to pick me up. Why don’t they want change? Why are they so stupid? These people are trying to feed their families just like them.”
