Kim Arendse: Business Leader, Entrepreneur & Systemic Change-Maker
Kim Arendse is a South African business strategist, entrepreneur, technology professional and emerging legal scholar. Her career spans more than two decades across financial services, retail, consulting, business development, marketing, operations and technology.
From Reception Desk to Regional Leadership
Arendse began her career in 2005 in the Retail Division of African Bank Group, working as a Receptionist and Order Controller. Four years later, she joined The Foschini Group, where she spent almost a decade progressing through various roles and building extensive expertise in operations management and visual representation. Her responsibilities eventually extended across five South African provinces, as well as Namibia and Ghana.
A Lifelong Learner
After almost 15 years in retail, Arendse moved into consulting, expanding her expertise into business intelligence, market and trend analysis, proposal development, marketing operations and commercial strategy.
Alongside her work, she has completed six diplomas spanning mobile application development, digital marketing, web design, graphic design and photography. She also studied financial accounting through the ICB and is currently completing her LLB.
Her influence, however, extends well beyond her professional achievements.
Choosing to Speak Out
Arendse later ventured into tourism and education, serving as Chairperson of the Overstrand Training Institute and as Managing Director of a restaurant operating from a tourism site with a multimillion-rand expansion vision. Her entrepreneurial journey brought her into direct contact with what she describes as serious governance, accountability and organised-crime concerns affecting business.
Rather than remain silent, Arendse chose to speak out and became a whistleblower.
For her, the decision was about more than protecting a business. It was about refusing to accept a system where entrepreneurs can feel pressured to compromise their integrity, face intimidation, or stay silent in the face of wrongdoing.
“It stops with me.”
That has become a defining principle of her journey.
Courage Under Pressure
Despite facing criticism, ridicule and intimidation, Arendse continues to advocate for accountability, transparency and ethical business practices. She believes whistleblowers should be protected, normalised and celebrated as people who help strengthen society, not remembered only after tragedy.
Influence With Purpose
Her nomination as one of Cape Town’s Top 30 Most Influential People represents more than recognition of professional success. It reflects her willingness to use her experience, resilience and voice to challenge systems she believes need to change.
For Arendse, influence is not simply about business success. It is about having the courage to stand for what is right when staying silent would be easier.
She wants South Africans to see that a whistleblower can speak up, survive, rebuild and keep contributing.
No to corruption. No to intimidation. No to silence.
The work of building a more transparent South Africa continues.
